The GMAP carried out advocacy work to raise the awareness of the importance of mainstreaming gender in mine action in preparation for the 2nd Review Conference of the AP MBC, the Cartagena Summit on a Mine-Free World, held in Cartagena, Colombia from the 30th of November to the 4th of December 2009.
As part of this advocacy campaign, the GMAP drafted three articles on “Gender Mainstreaming the Cartagena Summit on a Mine-Free World”, focusing on CL/MRE, Victim Assistance and Mine Clearance respectively. These articles were sent out to a total of 43 countries, both mine-affected State Parties and major donor countries. They were sent together with accompanying letters, urging states to recognise the importance of mainstreaming gender in mine action, and to highlight gender in their statements at the Cartagena Summit on a Mine-Free World.
